As he embarks on this new chapter as a winemaker, Rucker’s goals remain consistent with his approach to music. “Really, I hope to bring people together in a way that maybe they didn’t expect,” he says. “Music’s done that for me in ways I never could have imagined, and I think wine has the same power.” His vision for AS ONE CRU wines is clear: he wants people to enjoy the wine, make memories with it, and simply have a good time.

Let’s forget about the fact that his 20-year-old Ford would have leaked more asphyxiating fumes than Iraq. More to the point, Robert Urich’s Ford was neither rare, beautiful nor expensive. To justify the expense of this kind of design, and its integrated technology, necessitates the kind of cars that are bought by unnamed buyers in private auctions.

Michael Chandler Ascends from Humble Roots to MMA Eminence.

Hailing from High Ridge, Missouri, a quaint town nestled near the Illinois border, Chandler describes his hometown as “more than a one-horse town, yet not quite a thriving metropolis. I’m a small guy, from a small town, who was taught to do small things,” Chandler reminisces, recounting the manner in which his modest upbringing endeavored to dissuade grand aspirations and lofty dreams. Fortuitously for the MMA world and its ardent devotees, Chandler and his parents harbored grander ambitions. Defying small town constraints would define the way forward for Chandler.

Chandler’s ascension to the pinnacle of MMA can be traced back to his collegiate wrestling days. Despite being a formidable high school wrestler, Chandler did not receive scholarship offers from any Division 1 college wrestling programs. While he garnered offers from Division 2 and NAIA institutions, Chandler opted to forgo those opportunities, instead attempting to secure a walk-on position at the University of Missouri. Chandler astutely recognized that he would be better served by the caliber of coaching and competition at Division 1 schools. With the unwavering support of his father, Mike, and mother, Betty, Chandler not only secured a place on the team but went on to become a three-time NCAA All-American. Chandler fondly recounts, “My parents were always willing to support us, no matter what sacrifices they had to make, whether it was taking on additional work or forsaking their own desires to ensure we had the opportunity to pursue ours.” As Chandler characterizes his childhood, “We didn’t have an abundance of material possessions, but we were never lacking.” He also credits his coach at the University of Missouri for instilling in him the desire to be not merely the best wrestler he could be but also the best student, friend, leader and person he could become.

This dedication to being more than just a student athlete, but a well-rounded individual, has served Chandler well throughout his life. Chandler etched his mark in the MMA landscape with Bellator MMA, where he swiftly emerged as one of its brightest luminaries. In 2011, Chandler’s breakthrough moment arrived when he captured the Bellator Lightweight Championship in a riveting clash, culminating in the submission of Eddie Alvarez. This victory not only showcased his formidable skill set but also set the stage for a series of epic battles that would cement his legacy as a Bellator legend.

Chandler went on to successfully defend the Lightweight title on two subsequent occasions. Throughout his career, Chandler has been a part of some of the most unforgettable moments in MMA history. The trilogy with Eddie Alvarez, including their epic encounter at Bellator 106, demonstrated Chandler’s ability to thrive under immense pressure. His reign as Bellator Lightweight Champion was marked by dominant performances and an unyielding will to succeed.

In 2020, Michael Chandler took his talents to the biggest stage in MMA—the UFC. His debut against Dan Hooker at UFC 257 was nothing short of total domination. In a mere two minutes and thirty seconds, Chandler unleashed his explosive striking, delivering a first-round knockout that left fans and fellow fighters in awe. The statement victory catapulted him into the upper echelons of the lightweight division. Chandler’s fighting style is a masterful blend of technical proficiency and raw power that overwhelms opponents with a multifaceted attack. Michael Chandler not only seeks to promote physical well-being but also encourages occasional hiatuses from physical progression to reflect on one’s achievements. What better way to do so than with a high-quality tequila? According to Chandler, his partnership with Hiatus Tequila was born out of his affinity for tequila and his deep respect for the company’s owner. Chandler speaks in reverent tones regarding this new venture, stating, “Kristopher DeSoto (Owner of Hiatus Tequila) and I are seeking to redefine what a celebrity partnership should look like in the spirit industry. I have invested in Hiatus because of their commitment to crafting tequila the traditional way—with a deep respect for culture, hard work and dedication to authenticity and quality at a superior price point.” The story of Hiatus Tequila would seem to mirror Chandler’s internal characteristics.

Chandler also finds time for his family and friends. Chandler, his wife Brie, and their two sons, Hap and Ace, enjoy traveling to far-flung destinations like Iceland, Greece and the somewhat less exotic Scottsdale, Arizona. Chandler spends time in the desert oasis of Scottsdale playing golf and hosting extended visits for groups of friends and family while on hiatus from his training regimen. The elusive pursuit of perfection in golf resonates with Chandler, as the need to work smarter and be dedicated to improvement feels natural to him. Although, according to Chandler, even the pressure cooker of stepping into the octagon for his first professional fight pales in comparison to the pressure involved in standing on the first tee at his local club with a crowd gathered.

The 37-year-old lightweight contender is sticking to his tried-and-tested formula that has brought him success throughout his admirable career. Chandler’s regimen involves a grueling schedule of double training sessions six days a week, with only Sundays reserved for recovery and regeneration through practices like foam rolling, massage therapy, and chiropractic adjustments.

Despite McGregor’s attempts to lure Chandler into a catchweight bout at 185 pounds, the Missouri native remains unfazed and committed to competing at his natural lightweight limit of 155 pounds. Chandler sees no need to bulk up or make drastic changes to his frame, confident in his ability to match McGregor’s perceived strength advantage. “I don’t intend to put on any extra weight,” Chandler stated.

“McGregor isn’t actually stronger than me, and I plan to fight at my best weight class.”

While his nutrition will be dialed in, with a focus on high-protein and carb-rich foods, Chandler’s training will be comprehensive, covering all aspects of mixed martial arts, including striking, grappling, wrestling, and strength and conditioning. His coach, Jeff Bristol, will continue to emphasize explosive power exercises.

Chandler made his mark in the MMA landscape with Bellator MMA, quickly emerging as one of its brightest stars. In 2011, his breakthrough moment came when he captured the Bellator Lightweight Championship in a riveting clash, submitting Eddie Alvarez. Sea

XV67

In 2019, Winch Design and Heesen Yachts introduced XVenture, a 57m explorer yacht renowned for its striking aesthetics and robust capabilities. Building upon that original platform and applying advancements in design and technology, the concept underwent a revitalization, resulting in the XV67 which debuted to rave reviews at the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show. The XV67 features innovative design solutions, revised layouts and enhanced allure. Crafted to navigate remote and diverse destinations with utmost safety and luxurious comfort, the XV67 explorer yacht concept stays faithful to its initial purpose: to create an exceedingly capable and visually stunning bluewater vessel, encouraging owners to explore uncharted waters and capture attention wherever they sail. This rugged 219-foot (67-meters, hence the name) voyager with her muscular design, features five cabins that comfortably accommodate 12 guests. Cloud 9

In 2017, Winch Design collaborated with CRN Yachts to create the interiors of the Cloud 9. The CRN’s sole design directive was to ensure the interior was suitable for both charter and family use. The prominent design features, such as the vibrant blue juxtaposed with sandy tones, establish an elegant, pristine, yet daring aesthetic. The maritime motif is further emphasized through the incorporation of corals and shells, while the woodwork predominantly utilizes limed oak and brushed Douglas Fir. Since its launch, the Cloud 9 made a significant impact in the yachting realm. Spanning an impressive 243 feet, this superyacht epitomizes excellence in design, functionality and luxury. Boasting a sleek profile complemented by intricately-crafted superstructure details and the refined elegance of its guest areas, this superyacht epitomizes world-class luxury. The design includes eight cabins, a glass-bottom pool, jacuzzi, gym, spa/salon, outdoor cinema (don’t worry, there is an indoor one too, for rainy days), and a 4,500 square-foot master suite. The vault for “water toys” includes a 30-foot rigid inflatable landing craft, a ski boat, a catamaran and various and sundry stand-up and sit-down personal watercraft and gear. Its design concept harmoniously balances expansive interior and exterior spaces, fostering a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience in unparalleled onboard comfort.

Land

Winch Design also brings its signature touch to land-based residences, creating bespoke living spaces that mirror the sophistication found in their maritime and aviation projects. The studio’s residential designs reflect a commitment to timeless elegance, ensuring that each project is a sanctuary of comfort and style.

The OWO Penthouse

Completed in 1901, the Old War Office (OWO) is one of London’s great Edwardian buildings nestled between the River Thames and St. James Square in Whitehall. The OWO was the architectural setting for Winch’s 2023 penthouse residence project. The OWO Penthouse draws upon their extensive expertise in crafting superyachts, private aircraft and residences for ultra-high net worth individuals. The design celebrates craftsmanship, artistry and The OWO’s rich historical and cultural significance. Collaborating with over forty renowned suppliers, Winch has meticulously curated bespoke furniture, fabrics, artwork and accessories for the five-bedroom penthouse. This collaboration resulted in a residence that exudes a sense of careful curation over time. Boasting amenities such as a private gym, sauna, cinema, game room, staff quarters and terraces offering panoramic views, The OWO Penthouse stands as truly unique.

The Wharf Marina & Spa Resort

Winch Design has completed its first-ever boutique resort on the island of Mahe, Seychelles. The Wharf Marina & Spa Resort boasts a private marina, allowing guests to arrive and dock directly at their destination. The boutique hotel accommodates a total of forty-four guests. Thirty-two guests can stay in the main villa, which includes two VIP suites, while an additional four guests can be accommodated in the Presidential Villa. Eight guests can enjoy the spa villas. This unique resort is set against the lush green mountains of Mahe, which serve as inspiration for the interior design’s textural references.

Aviation Interiors

The same principles of elegance and innovation that define Winch’s yacht interiors and residential spaces are applied to its aviation projects. The studio has crafted luxurious and personalized interiors for private jets, transforming the flying experience into a seamless extension of the owner’s lifestyle.

Atlas

The Atlas Jet, an Airbus ACJ319 built in 2013, incorporates elements reminiscent of a turn-of-the-century circumnavigator’s club library: bookshelves lining the walls, sumptuous leather chairs and discreet concealed doorways leading to various sections of the aircraft. Drawing inspiration from the luxury associated with timeless English gentleman’s clubs, the design exudes Old World sophistication. To recreate this atmosphere, the design team at Winch drew inspiration from traditional hotel smoking rooms and sought ideas from renowned British brands. Their meticulous efforts aimed to evoke the comfort and ambiance of one’s own living room or cherished member’s club. Masculine accents abound, evident in details such as the leather flooring in the library, striking architectural features and the expansive double sliding doors in the lounge.

Mayfair

Winch Design’s aviation concept, named the Mayfair, draws inspiration from London’s most opulent hotels, blending classic Savile Row British elegance with a cosmopolitan flair. While benefiting from the efficiency of a pre-prepared design, the Mayfair retains all the characteristics of a bespoke VIP aircraft, tailored to each owner’s preferences in configuration, interior design and exterior livery. Internally, the aircraft boasts a sense of spaciousness, featuring a dynamic open-plan layout that enhances flexibility. For instance, a cinema area can easily transform into a second bedroom, while a dining table doubles as a meeting table, ensuring the Mayfair caters to both business and leisure travelers. Crafted with meticulous precision and attention to detail, the Mayfair exudes the opulence of the most luxurious apartment.
