Luxury watch trends 2024

The allure of fine watches never seems to fade. Wearing an authentic timepiece is the ultimate flex, garnering respect and placing the final stamp on personal style. Many watch enthusiasts would agree, it transforms every outfit they wear. The wonder of the watch is understated yet bold, refined yet regal. It’s a total power move.

As we reflect on watch trends this past year, we observe how heritage fundamentally plays a role. The act of wearing a traditional timepiece is more important to collectors than flashy features. Although, the recent trends of rich color and diamond bezels hit at the heart. Consumers are in search of the unusual, and enthusiasts delight at the return of retro. But designs that stand the test of time are a collector’s dream. Tradition is everything.

Take Rolex’s highly collectible classics that were reimagined in 2024. The newer iterations of best sellers are the Cosmograph Daytona and GMT-Master II. The brands 2024 campaign touts inclination towards preciousness and principle, saying that these styles will “reawaken watchmaking emotions.” Similar to the iconic Hermes Birkin, the pieces will gain value as time goes on. One might say it’s the ultimate investment.

Fine watches are increasingly taking up space, even with softer sales. The industry anticipates stabilization and potential growth ahead. Experts note that the global fine watch market is projected to make $49.8 billion in sales in 2024. To many, this sounds like quite a feat. The development of fine watch brands’ online presence has redirected customer focus to a simpler way to buy as brick-and-mortar continues to have less appeal.

As we lean into the comfort of the classics, we witness a gradual rise in smart integration. High watch brand Patek Philippe recently indulged in a tempting new design. The collection infuses traditional styles with a technical spin, by equipping a world time watch into an existing best seller. It utilizes a date display synchronized with local time, where the 24-hour disk is subdivided into day and night zones. Its opaline dial center boasts a blue-gray hue and carbon motif. The technical beaute, World Time With Date, not only makes you say wow, but promises never-before-seen intricacy for a highly distinctive collector’s piece.

The power of social media is trickling over as well. Fine watch brands are forming close bonds with influencers and media moguls to create content like we’ve never seen before. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram are all about experimentation and highlighting brands in new and unique ways. Unlike the early years of perfect placement and image filtering –now it’s natural, it’s easy, and it’s engaging – drawing in an audience that admires aesthetic, authenticity, and luxury.

It’s undone and it’s effortless. The relatable yet potent posts win these days – think succinct taglines and clever puns. Shoppers are getting a first look at brands through a real personality, and influencers are reaping the reward. Shoppers are more likely to buy when they sense that the bond is genuine, so this requires embodying the brand with ingenuity and wit. Not to mention, these high-end labels are witnessing trends from younger generations in a fresh format.

Celebrity icons, too, remain steadfast for increasing sales in this category. Supermodel and activist Bella Hadid teamed with luxury Swiss jewelry house Chopard in 2024. This came to no surprise after she stunned in Chopard’s covetable jewels against a champagne-hued Gucci dress at the 77th Cannes Film Festival this past May. Then there’s Julia Robert’s long-standing partnership with Chopard as a global ambassador. Her “all smiles” approach emulates the brand’s favorite attributes – class and authenticity. Perhaps even nostalgia plays a part, as the iconic movie star stole hearts with her pristine pout and unapologetic persona in the early 90’s.

Like Julia Roberts, Chopard leans into playfulness and experimentation. On a more intimate level, Chopard’s ethical gold and sustainability journey enrich the label with substance. The brand introduced titanium into high jewelry which, many would agree, was a bold move. Chopard also sets diamonds in steel instead of the traditional platinum or gold. A few years ago, Chopard launched a recycled proprietary material called lucent steel into all its watches, an unexpected move that keeps consumers curious.

Another brand that chose to ride the wave of sustainable practices is Ulysse Nardin. The brand’s Ops collection is synonymous with style and adventure. It highlights hues of camo green with durable rubber. Perhaps it’s a nod to the spirit of the uninhibited nature in all of us, the thrill-seeker. In similar fashion, Blast Tourbillon Dragon intrigues with a touch of creative fantasy. It fuses culture with rich ancestry, showcasing a slithering gold dragon that leads to a polished pearl center.

Luxury watch trends 2024

Fine watch brand, Breguet, boasts a rich history as a fine watch retailer, but the brand appeals to a specific crowd. With previous clients like Napoléon Bonaparte, Sir Winston Churchill, and, more recently, Dr. Dre, Breguet highlights peculiarity and traditional horology, two traits that appeal to fine watch connoisseurs. Historically, Breguet reimagined the pilot’s watch and then the Type XX was launched in June 2023. Due to its success, a civilian version was created in gold in 2024. Similar to Chopard’s use of unusual material, Breguet crafted this version with a gold bezel and ceramic ring for the first time. Breguet’s bold behavior is getting noticed – namely by vintage watch dealers – and is slowly becoming a brand to watch.

Luxury watch trends 2024

Similar to Breguet, Piaget also has a long-standing reputation in the industry. In April 2024, the brand celebrated its 150th anniversary at Watches and Wonders. Set in Geneva, Switzerland, it was a glamorous and visually appealing event, and yet there was no shying away from new mastery. As ultra-thin watches caught eyes this past year, Piaget took on the challenge boldly, introducing Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon. All its parts had to fit within 2 mm, including an annular tourbillon. The design proved nothing short of brilliant and set the tone for the future of slim watch design.

Luxury watch trends 2024

As a forward-thinker, Richard Mille has also revolutionized more than one concept. Progressive and innovative, the brand continues to gravitate towards grandeur and shock-value. Leaning into styles like the sport watch, the pleasant surprise lies in the elegant and sleek design. Most heritage watch brands stick to the classics, so Mille impresses with a refreshing turn from what’s expected. The 2024 release of RM 30-01 in ATZ white ceramic is polished to perfection, with a scratch-resistant case. The satin finish is both unflawed and head-turning, exuding visual mastery. Perhaps it’s a reminder of the incredible moment when one purchases their first timepiece.

The future of watchmaking is promising with designs that don’t hold back. The industry practically oozes reputation and esteem. A nod to the fine elegance of clock-making, the historical brands illuminate the customs of the past while bringing attention to a new time. Behold, a new era of the watch.

With one brief look at the Le Vian website, the intention of the brand unfolds. At first glance, the fine jewelry purveyor cultivates a stark and powerful narrative, deeply entwining the whimsical nature of exquisite gems with the profound impact of how they came to be. The allure of decadent collections and a refreshingly idealistic approach take the brand’s heavenly motto to a utopian realm. The sense of longing and desire are evident in the tagline—A jewelry lover’s dream come true.

But more than just the expression of love is the longevity that the brand boasts. Le Vian’s heritage reaches back to the 1400s with a business that has been in operation since 1746, suggesting rich historical nuances have shaped the label for the last 300 years and obstacles have been overcome to get there.

The label is credited for guarding the Persian royal jewels, as well as the Koh-i-Noor diamond (one of the world’s largest cut diamonds and part of Queen Elizabeth’s British crown jewels), acquiring a sum of rare tanzanite, and later, gathering prestigious sapphires from Madagascar. But the real story is centered around the exposé of one such tantalizing accoutrement, chocolate diamonds, and how its existence and accessibility formed undeniable intrigue in the fine jewelry world.

Gaining popularity in the early 1950s, diamonds were catching attention for their vast intricacies. It wasn’t until an observant jeweler rebranded the generic term “diamond” to differentiate subtle variations in each color, calling out hues like champagne, cognac or amber. This encouraged a deeper investigation into all diamonds, and by 1996, brown diamonds, or chocolate diamonds, were officially introduced into the market. The grading system wasn’t fully formed at this point, so a new system was tested for the decadent brown hue, which included C1 (lightest) to C7 (darkest).

In 2000, Le Vian partnered with Rio Tinto and Signet Jewelers to obtain a patent for the chocolate diamond. This sparked a surge of interest and heavy demand, as Le Vian was the first in its class to bring such beauty to the market. By 2007, nearly 400,000 requests were pouring in for this particular style. Naturally, the brand continued to source the jewels from the most fruitful diamond-producing location, Australia’s Argyle mine. This went on for nearly 20 years, until economic and environmental pressures led to the mine’s closure in 2020.

The end of the mine led to greater demand for chocolate diamonds in the last four years, so Le Vian launched a collaboration with Godiva Chocolates in 2022 to monetize this venture. In the wake of the collaboration’s success, these rich gems drew in a fan base of over five million collectors worldwide. Le Vian has continued to make it their mission to bring chocolate diamonds to their stores, satisfying their customers with consistency, quality and trust.

“At Le Vian we are determined to stay at the forefront of creating the most exquisite natural fancy color diamond and gemstone jewelry,” said Eddie LeVian, chief executive officer and founder at Le Vian.

Eddie LeVian has an esteemed reputation, utilizing his talents in both leadership and industry knowledge. He has experience in the field working as a gem cutter, jewelry maker, salesperson, show person, jewelry designer, director and now as CEO. This has positioned the brand for success, and he continues to propel it forward by anticipating trends in the marketplace.

The reputable CEO foresees gold as the next jewelry trend, suspecting its delightful sheen to overtake the runway by 2025. Eddie LeVian acknowledges gold as a classic and effortless base metal, and the brand already produces collections that complement this rich hue with stark contrast to calmer tones like lavender, powder blue or rose pink. According to insider information from the team, new collections are on the horizon with this rich shimmery hue in surprisingly different ways, but consumers will have to wait and see how the trend takes shape.

“I love the gold trend,” said Eddie LeVian. “It modernizes the Le Vian look and gives us a new way to show our strength.”

Perhaps a glimpse into future golden collections is seen through the brand’s exclusive collaboration with Jared. Meaning “golden sunset” in Italian, Le Vian’s Tramonto D’Oro is inspired by the Neapolitan Riviera and alludes to the jewelry’s dreamy iridescence, like stars emerging from the setting sun. It includes 14 karat gold adorned with dainty diamonds and gemstones that seek to entice instead of overwhelm. In this collection, the beauty is evident in the subtleties.

But on a more profound level, jewelry experts examine the future of fine jewelry apart from surface trends. Many attentive jewelers see what makes the industry similar yet different from years past. “As we gaze into the crystal ball of 2024, we foresee echoes of 2023’s resounding success,” said Eddie LeVian. “The landscape is dynamic, with certain categories ascending to new heights as others maintain a gentle repose.”

The challenges of the last few years have revealed a cultural experience wrapped in hardship that has shaped the way shoppers view fashion and accessories. These uneasy sentiments have caused consumers to identify with their jewelry differently, so it requires the brand to create pieces that support this emotional shift. Perhaps this could mean a departure from the enthusiasm and prominence of statement pieces, and a return back to the familiar: timeless elegance in the form of simplistic staples.

Similar to the richness of the gold trend, timeless pieces are treasures that live on forever and are passed down for generations. They are reliable and predictable. In a time of targeted marketing, overconsumption and an uncertain economic landscape, the security of quality jewels that hold meaning, value and heritage far outway the short-lived satisfaction of fleeting trends. This outlook of resilience grounds consumers and gives them a deeper sense of purpose in their style journey, lending a more powerful connection to self expression and a pathway to healing.

In light of this, Le Vian presented a trend forecast this summer that embodies the honest wants and needs of the customer. The jewelry industry’s leading international trade event, the JCK show, recently took place in Las Vegas on June 2 of this year. In addition to new collections, the team expanded their offering at the show. Le Vian held more space for appointment-only consultations at the event and revealed the much-anticipated trends to showcase the future of the brand’s assortment.

Drawing inspiration from society and trends, Le Vian has created a space where customers feel a sense of peace and satisfaction with what they wear. The brand has conducted research to make products that resonate with shoppers and leave a lasting impression.

At the root of Le Vian’s brand is a pure sentiment, and it’s the reason customers buy fine jewelry. It begins with the innate attraction to love . . . what is time on Earth without it?

Actress Angelina Jolie with Robert Procop, an expert in fine jewelry.

For ideators and designers alike, it all begins with a sketch. On a raw, colorless page, the precision is shown in a contrast of sharp lines and imperfect edges. Acting as a rough draft for a soon-to-be gem, the piece of paper is paramount. The smeared details, while tedious and hard to replicate, draw in the consumer and ultimately form a lasting impression. The sketch sets the expectation.

Robert Procop, leading diamond and gemstone expert, finds proper craftsmen to sketch the designs for his California-based fine jewelry brand, and he says it’s key to success in the industry. Procop believes that this doesn’t happen by gliding with the status quo, but rather by pushing boundaries to find what works. Over time, this garners deeper admiration and respect. It was an intrepid concept Procop may have adopted from his father, who worked as an engineer at General Electric.

Born and raised in Southern California, Procop’s boldness and determination were wildly evident even from the time of boyhood. What started as a desire to collect rocks and gems in early adolescence evolved into buying and selling gems for trade. He worked in a jewelry loan office and fervently acquired the tricks of the trade. “I traveled the world and learned the techniques of making fine jewels,” Procop said. Not only did he absorb this knowledge at an impressive pace, but he earned enough money to financially support himself as a young and spirited college student.

After immersing himself in the fine jewelry world, Procop embarked on a journey to Bogotá, Columbia where he quickly mastered the art of faceting a gemstone using a polishing machine to cut and buff the gem into a size that was suitable for sale. This tedious task, along with his love for lighting, formed an unrivaled appreciation for the design process.

Procop’s next phase of life sharpened his business acumen even further. The aspiring jewelry professional accepted roles like wholesaler, retailer, and store owner. He even began his very own luxury jewelry business in the heart of Beverly Hills called Diamonds on Rodeo, serving distinguished clients like President Ronald Reagan with exceptional, hand-crafted accouterments.

Procop now leads an advanced business concept of his own, using his familiar moniker as the foundation of the eponymous jewelry brand. Gaining notoriety along the way, Procop made his mark with royalty when he cared for the crown jewels under Queen Elizabeth. Additionally, he commissioned pieces for celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Brooke Shields.

To showcase his infectious love for fine jewelry, Procop recently collaborated with the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles to curate the exhibit, “100 Carats: Icons of the Gem World.” The display is a true depiction of the jewelry designer’s most covetable gemstones, including a 120-carat Mozambique ruby known for its brilliance and strong fluorescence. Each gemstone in the collaboration is over 100 carats, revealing not only the true splendor of each piece in his personal collection, but his dedication to quality.

Procop’s inspiration behind the collaboration shows his adoration for high-end design, and if studied further, his refreshingly unconventional approach. He recalls asking himself, What has never been done before? And the rest fell into place. “The answer and challenge turned into an incredible treasure hunt for the finest gems in every species,” Procop said. “This kind of search and discovery is what I enjoy most.”

The Robert Procop brand also seeks to make an impact further from home. The brand supports proper sourcing and responsible mining as a way to rebuild an industry broken down by society’s harmful impact. Unethical practices and overconsumption have challenged the integrity of the industry and given jewelry brands, like this one, more leverage to reveal these issues and bring them to the surface. The Procop retailer continually strives to educate consumers on how to shop for gemstones, which demonstrates the honest company they strive to build.

Robert Procop doesn’t intend to lose momentum anytime soon. In addition to his design and curation work, the brand proudly participates in charitable work with organizations including Treasures from Angels, a designer resale website where proceeds are given to a women’s family shelter, the Los Angeles House of Ruth (LAHR). Additionally, the brand completes work for the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, a non-profit organization committed to increasing access to quality education for underprivileged children.

Learning the art of gemstones takes time and patience, but the team at Robert Procop would say it’s vital to standing out in the industry. Beyond that, they facilitate a quality approach that is mindful of ethical regulations. Acquiring gems from the mines and firsthand sources has helped them form an honorable reputation. And the final aspect to success has been finding the sweet spot for competitive value.

When asked what advice he’d propose to aspiring jewelry designers, Procop concluded, “Imagine your most creative ideas. Sketch them on paper over and over. Dream of what they will look like,” he said. “And only use master craftsmen.”

Whether it’s his captivating persona or his undeniable love for fine jewelry, Ron Arbusman has plenty to share in the world of fine gems. I sat down virtually with the founder and CEO of Ammrada to discuss the glimmering nuances of his chic Miami-based jewelry brand and capture the true essence of what makes his accouterments story-worthy.

Of course, all gems are mesmerizing, but jewelry experts like Ron Arbusman find pleasure in every design aspect, developing a rich quality around the details. Ron emphasized that these pieces aren’t about adding the final touch to your outfit, but rather, creating the foundation for the rest of your style. It’s an idea that most mainstream retailers either don’t recognize or don’t find necessary to highlight if sales are high.

It was obvious, after moments of being acquainted with him, that Ron had an artist’s sense of creativity. His tactile, hands-on nature felt wholeheartedly sincere, especially after he pulled a pair of button earrings from his desk—highlighting the precision, hard work and attention to detail in every visible crevice.

Small business owners suffer greatly when it comes to the jewelry industry. Many passionate owners, like Ron, attend trade shows alone while mass retailers pile in with a powerful, six-person buying team to divide and conquer. In these moments, start-up brands may lack the reputation to leverage their relationships with distributors; not to mention, there are pressures to ensure pricing and material are suitable before investing money, which is a heavy weight to bear. But that doesn’t scare Ron. “It’s me versus them,” Ron said. “Who’s going to get the better product?”

The luxury jewelry industry is at an all-time high for competition. Although in past decades, it has lived up to its fame, acting as a symbol of prestige, wealth and pristine business acumen, the last three years have made a negative impact on small business owners trying to stand out amongst an oversaturated field of commercial jewelry brands.

The growth of conglomerate e-commerce platforms such as Net-a-Porter and Farfetch has diluted the luxury jewelry market because (like Amazon) they offer a wide selection of inventory and varying brands at a one-stop-shop, making it more difficult than ever for small-name retailers to compete. Their competitive advantage lies in their smart and effective use of analyzing customer feedback in ways that smaller companies may not have the tools in place for. Also, the rise in sustainable fashion has created a shift to the paid subscription model where customers not only have access to a variety of jewelry at a fair price, but they can test out items and send them back to retrieve others, lowering their carbon footprint and increasing space in their wardrobes, all at the same time.

According to a report by McKinsey and Company, the number of luxury jewelry brands has increased by 10 percent annually over the past decade. In 2020 alone, 300 new jewelry-specific brands entered the market. The report also points to an increase in direct-to-consumer brands, which own all elements of the selling experience while bypassing the wholesale or distribution process. While this method offers fine jewelry at more affordable pricing, it competes with the foundational method for acquiring jewelry, which involves unparalleled industry knowledge and sourcing gems at a high price, the way that traditional legacy brands have been operating for decades.

According to Ron, legacy brands are labels with a long history in the industry who have forged a heritage. “The legacy brands are the ones who are really doing it right in the jewelry industry right now,” he said. “We are seeing the evolution of the industry standards, and we are trying to implement it as much as we can.”

Taking inspiration from jewelry industry trailblazers, Ron fuses a sense of community and family into the brand. Ron’s grandfather, and then later his father, became diamond manufacturers before transitioning to becoming retailers. Ron naturally walked in their footsteps, and became a diamond dealer and distributor for a major manufacturer before opening his doors to Ammrada. His wife involved herself with the business from the fashion side, using her expertise in the apparel industry to instill a sense of unification and value into the brand.

Ammrada was born from the desire to succeed and lead a legacy, so Ron created a brand name to emulate that idea. The logo has three hearts surrounded by a circle, which symbolizes family, where they originated, and the legacy they leave behind. Similar to the logic behind the brand name, he lives by a fairly straightforward set of ethical standards. His employees must be treated with dignity and respect, and the gems must be sourced adequately and with intention.

“Knowledge is everything in today’s diamond business,” Ron said. “It’s about using the best materials and making sure it’s something that lasts.” From the viewpoint of sustainability, he noted that this jewelry is made to be passed down for many years. His products are created with heavy backings so that anyone can wear them, no matter their phase in life or stylistic preferences. Similarly, the brand has also taken a shift away from custom pieces or trends because samples are expensive, and when the consumer asks for a particular design that is outside of the brand, Ron loses his message. “You can’t reach everyone,” he said. “Our focus is to make unique items and develop a niche clientele.”

Referencing commonly-used materials like 18-karat yellow gold, Ron explained how each and every piece is hand-crafted with a solid fill to enhance the quality and weight. He noted that many retailers will use a hollow fill and charge the same price, but it’s obvious once you hold these items in your hand that they’re not nearly as substantial. That’s why his team opts for quality over faster or cheaper production.

Ron then pulled out what appeared to be a paperclip chain, noting how good it feels in his hand. “I’m almost a little bit offended if anyone called this a paperclip chain,” he said with a smile, alluding to the pliable nature of a paperclip. He then focused on its versatility. He made sure to say that it coordinates effortlessly with a plain t-shirt and a pair of jeans, but it looks equally as elegant with a little black dress. He added, one can’t necessarily pinpoint an era for the designs, but it certainly feels classic in a new way. “A twenty-year-old could wear it, but so could your grandma,” Ron said. “It’s generationless.”

But above all, good jewelry feels right to the person who’s wearing it. And if there’s one thing we can’t replicate, it’s a genuine love for the product. It culminates during the buying process and is then transferred to the customer once they hold it in their hands for the first time—and that kind of adoration goes far beyond the price.

The Hope Diamond is one of the world’s most iconic dreamy diamonds.

The brilliance of jewelry is not only from a glimmering aesthetic; it lies within. Every piece has a story to tell, and the older the gem, the better the narrative. Whether it’s a story of love, wealth, business, or the intricacies of family, these pieces are passed down for generations and share a unique purpose. The familiar phrase “Diamonds are forever” alludes to their timeless and mysterious nature. So it’s no wonder many of the most iconic treasures from the earth are of similar quality and value.

Jewelry can be a symbol of status or simply a work of art. Regardless of what it represents, jewelry brings a moment of intimacy and connection between the giver and the recipient. Jewelry holds value in a way that most earthly possessions are incapable of. Each time it’s granted new ownership, an important anecdote is written –  like history repeating itself in a new, unconventional way.

Let’s uncover the relevance of some of the most expensive jewelry of all time. The subtle nuances of these rare gems show there’s so much to discover. All it takes is a little patience and the desire to dig deeper.

Hope Diamond

There are very few things in life that grow finer with age, and  diamonds are undoubtedly one of them. The Hope Diamond is most certainly one of the oldest and rarest gems on our list. Most known for its influence in the 1997 film Titanic, this piece inspired the film’s “Heart of the Ocean” necklace and imitated its sea-stained effervescence. Shaped like a square with cut corners, this cushion-shaped diamond received its color from trace amounts of boron creating a statement facade that has enticed devotees for centuries.

Weighing in at just over 45 carats, Hope Diamond  is the largest blue diamond known to exist, and certainly the most expensive, costing about $250 million. It was originally unearthed in India in the mid-17th century and quickly became a royal heirloom when King Louis XIV of France purchased and repurposed it into one of his crown jewels. Cartier bought it in 1910 and, yet again, reimagined the gem into a pendant. It currently lives on display in the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C where it has resided since 1958.

Heritage in Bloom

The Heritage in Bloom necklace is also among the world’s most valuable gems. The story of this piece centers more around its intentional design than its historical relevance. Masterfully crafted by Chinese artist Wallace Chan, the statement piece incorporates 11,551 diamonds and took 11 months to complete. The result is a breathtaking work of art, valued at $200 million.

It comprises a colorless diamond that Chan used from a larger diamond known as the Cullinan Heritage. A nod to its intricate and well-thought design, the 104-carat masterpiece is surrounded by “mutton fat” white jade which is said to release negative energy and represents the merge of two separate but equally valued cultures. The Heritage In Bloom can be assembled into 27 unique combinations and is a way to showcase its artful versatility. This substantial piece weighs a remarkable half pound.

Peacock Brooch

A statement piece for any jewelry collector’s playful amusement, the Peacock Brooch comprises 1,305 gemstones including white, yellow, pink, orange, and green diamonds to mimic colorful bird feathers. The signature aspect of the piece is the fancy deep blue diamond at its center, which highlights an elegant pear-shape silhouette and weighs an astonishing 20 carats. This rare adornment was revealed at one of the finest antique shows in the world, Maastricht’s TEFAF fair, and has since been recognized historically as a unique and spectacular gem. The creator of this piece was Laurence Graff, founder of Graff Diamonds, who takes the prominent title, ‘the king of diamonds’. This gem is not only quirky and eccentric, it has a very high value. The Peacock Brooch is worth $100 million.

Pink Star

Without a doubt, one of the most coveted natural gemstones on earth is the pink diamond. The Pink Star diamond ring has a feminine and exceedingly royal quality that places it in a category of its own. It sold for an exorbitant $71.2 million in April 2017 at a Hong Kong auction. The 59-carat flawless jewel is said by experts to be the only one like it in terms of quality and size.  It’s rare to uncover a pink diamond over 20 carats, and it becomes increasingly more difficult as the earth ages. Most pink diamonds are harvested from a mine in western Australia, which depleted in 2020, so the value of these gems will only rise as less become discoverable.

Steinmetz diamonds originally purchased the Pink Star where it adopted the moniker, the Steinmetz Pink. As its notoriety and value came to fruition, it was put on display at the Smithsonian for onlookers to revel in its unparalleled beauty. Like many historic pieces, the Pink Star tells an interesting narrative. Sotheby’s had to acquire the diamond shortly after an auction in 2013 when the original buyer failed to make payments, and was later purchased in 2017 by the Hong Kong jeweler Chow Tai Fook where it adopted the name it still has today, the CTF Pink. The size and rarity of the gem make it highly desirable and worth the investment to any buyer.

Blue Moon

Family heritage and endless love play a part in the story of one of the world’s most expensive rings, the Blue Moon. This statement-making  gem sold at a Geneva auction in 2015 for $48.5 million. It held a record at the time, selling for an astonishing $4 million per carat. It was purchased by a private Hong Kong collector, Joseph Lau, who eagerly bestowed the gift to his 7-year-old daughter. He also named it after her, calling it the “Blue Moon of Josephine.”

The 12.03-carat diamond was found in a South African mine in 2014. The raw diamond had a tedious six month preparation process where it was cut and polished to the perfect size and shape. The Blue Moon diamond has no traces of non-crystallized carbon which grants it the official title of flawless, and as such, increases its appeal over time.

Although raw gems are exquisite, the mastery behind the design of each piece holds even greater value. The influence of luxury brands plays a key role in a gem’s notoriety and success. In 1912, Pierre Cartier used his skill to add a contemporary setting to the Hope Diamond to attract a new buyer. Similarly,  Laurence Graff used his keen eye and visual creativity to form a statement piece unlike anything ever made, resulting in the brand’s colorful Peacock Brooch. Harry Winston, Mikimoto, and Chopard all have a pristine reputation in the industry as well. They take a similar approach to reimagining fine gems to ensure every piece ever made is a precious gift that forms an unforgettable moment.

Repurposing ancient gems takes a piece of an older story, and adds it to a new, untouched creation. A merge of identities, if you will, to reinterpret the tale. Every layer is worth sharing regardless of its past, and it’s up to us to uncover the intriguing history.

Blue Moser & CIE brand watch on a slightly reflective black surface

The story of H. Moser & Cie. is rooted in entrepreneurial spirit. A familiar tale that describes one man’s relentless perseverance, Heinrich Moser crafted the framework for the brand we know and love today. Born into a family of watchmakers, Moser was inspired to build a factory and employ hundreds of skilled artisans back in the early 1800’s. It took more than mastering the mechanics of a watch to forge an empire that kept on ticking. His undeniable drive and grit propelled the brand forward for decades.

Even today, one could surmise that time is still on Moser’s side. His legacy lives on with H. Moser & Cie., a watchmaker accustomed to reimagining the brand experience and breaking away from conventional ideas. This client-focused mentality is built on the desire to connect with every customer, ultimately fostering intention and grace. This approach may not be widely known, but it’s paving the way for a bright future – the return to a human element in a vastly automated world.

Moser is one of the originals to diligently ensure watchmaking stays true to its beginnings. All of the watches are conceptualized and designed in-house. This keeps a small business mentality, and in turn, intrigues potential customers with a more intimate and personalized shopping experience.

The business has evolved over the years to include various CEOs, but Edouard Meylan, the current Chief Executive Officer, holds his title of authority differently. Not only does he have an abundance of previous experience, he’s led the company to a very rare ideology that positions the brand for success.

Similar to how a friendship forms deep connections, the brand takes a mindful approach to this principal philosophy. “We are a true independent Swiss watch manufacturer,” said Meylan.“The way we communicate, engage, sell, and service our watches and our customers is very rare because we place humans above all,” Meylan added.

Moser & CIE brand CEO Edouard Meylan

Born in Switzerland, Meylan led a life absorbed in the craft of timepieces and walked in the footsteps of generations of skilled artisans. He received a Masters in Engineering and an MBA from Wharton. Apart from his impressive education, his experience includes management consulting and eventually, founding a luxury brand. So when he became CEO of H. Moser in April 2013, it was a seamless and well-deserved transition.

Although premium accolades and customer retention matter greatly, maintaining the art of watch collecting is of vital importance. Fundamentally, watch collecting began as a hobby but over time has evolved into a type of trade. Like many material possessions that grow finer with age, watches have become an investment and a financial gain. Familiarity with trends, market share, and access to the internet has positioned investors at an advantage when shopping for watches. The amount of options they have access to can oversaturate the market, and in turn, bury the smaller businesses.

Amidst a competitive environment, H. Moser doesn’t want to lose sight of the original intention of these collector’s pieces, which is essentially, to bring luxury timepieces to life. “Watches have to continue to drive emotions and must remain milestones in everyone’s life,” Meylan said. “Otherwise, we will lose innovation and our ability to make people dream.”

Two CIE brand blue watches on a black background.

This all feels true when exploring the rich community that the brand has cultivated over the years. The young team at H. Moser & Cie. would admit to having a pulse on the industry, which has equipped them to achieve a compelling presence on social networks and in stores. Another successful endeavor was the creation of the brand’s newsletter, the Moser Chronicles which has imparted a humorous tone to a selection of consumers. The newsletters, including the glimpse into watchmaking that they provide, give a deeper sense of credibility to the luxury label.

In terms of new projects coming down the pipeline for 2023, the brand will be taking a conservative approach. Instead of creating a new collection, they have decided to maintain a clear focus on current products and the brand’s infamous four pillars: Endeavour, Streamliner, Pioneer, and Heritage.

Meylan alluded to a new collaboration that will be rooted in the brand’s history and may stray away from its usual link to fashion, lifestyle, and art. This mysterious new venture may lead them down a different path that is still reminiscent of their original brand vision. “We push the boundaries, explore new territories, and remain relevant while staying true and faithful to our past and to our values,” he said.

In the words of Giorgio Armani, “The difference between style and fashion is quality.” In recent years, the landscape of luxury has taken a dramatic turn. We are on a pathway to simplicity that’s restoring the way we view style. Menswear has fallen away from traditional tailoring and leaned into a fresh, laid-back approach that’s in between easy athleisure and a professional polish.

Amidst the ever-changing environment of menswear, successful styling is still an important skill to acquire. Put-together outfits aren’t directly related to a person’s character, but are associated with what defines a man’s exterior. First impressions are vital in business and beyond. They garner respect, and on a psychological level, they improve confidence and self-esteem. Wearing luxury pieces may even unearth a sense of authenticity within you. Luxury fashion is always handcrafted and intentional. There are no shortcuts with true design, and wearing quality over quantity gives others a better sense of what’s genuine about you. Mastering the art of dress is much less frivolous when observing it from this broader lens.

We aren’t all intuitively connected to fashion, and harnessing your own personal style is tricky and time-consuming. The good news is there’s a way to dress fashionably that appears natural and effortless. It all starts with exploring the aesthetic that appeals to you. Maybe you desire unique, bespoke cuts, timeless tailoring or a hint of the unexpected. It’s possible you may find pleasure in uncovering a hidden treasure that no one else will have. Maybe a capsule wardrobe is right for you, where you cut down to only your favorite neutrals. Any of these approaches can help you achieve the same level of quality in your signature look.

Just because certain ways of dressing are recognized for a given season, doesn’t mean that you have to identify with them. Style isn’t assuming the role of trend devotee. The designers that make an impact are the ones who incorporate nuances of what’s in vogue, while remaining true to their DNA. So how do you determine the right luxury brand for you? We’ve compiled a style guide with the most influential names in the industry. With decades of training and exposure under their belts, these impactful brands find solace in their craft, and provide a fundamental framework for achieving a lifetime of luxury fashion.

Ralph Lauren has undeniable appeal. Reminiscent of East Coast elegance, the designs feel natural and equestrian with a dash of old-world charm. The label creates character-filled capsules that inspire you to be authentic and live every day with love. If a warm flannel suit or cozy cable knit appeals, and you’re a proponent of American classics, this brand is for you. The label’s most recent collection, inspired by the ease of California living, breathes an air of the West Coast into your wardrobe. Linen shirts in neutral ocean hues, soft-as-ever suede and durable full-grain leather define the fabrics in the line.

Inspired by a progressive and worldly approach, Bottega Venetamasterfully creates designs that reimagine traditional silhouettes. Although still timeless, the brand fosters a hint of surprise with retro-inspired capsules. Known for its signature “intrecciato” weave that defines the label with distinctive leatherwork, the brand continues to propose a fresh perspective and a new sense of modernity that’s slowly becoming “streetwear hip.” If you are drawn to cool, cutting-edge design that doesn’t live in any decade, this brand is for you.

Salvatore Ferragamo is an Italian label associated with staple accessories like the iconic driving loafers and soft leather satchels. The name encompasses the lifelong luxury of traditional fashion, but unlike Ralph Lauren, caters to a seemingly younger demographic. Rich, formal dressing is vital for the brand. (Most high-style enthusiasts have at least one pair of Ferragamos in their closet.) It’s identifiable by the signature Gancino accessory—the circular hardware that’s prominent on shoes and handbags—and exudes opulence with well-fitted suiting and innovative tailoring.

Defined by dramatic and sensual styles, the American designer Tom Ford focuses on bespoke evening collections that are worn by the likes of celebrities and socialites. For a menswear approach, the line has invigorating elegance written all over it. Choose from a refined assortment of suits and sweaters that will likely bring out the intrepid traveler in you. If you’re after sharp, custom pieces that will place you in the spotlight as you jet around the globe, Tom Ford is most certainly for you.

Italian roots, Brunello Cucinelli incorporates exceptional quality and artisan craftsmanship into every piece. So much so, the designer himself wears his favorite neutral-hued items for years on end. Affectionately referred to as the ‘king of cashmere,’ the brand is best known for luxury knits, French terry and breathable cotton that boast the softness and versatility that a capsule wardrobe enthusiast desires. If you’re an advocate of the basics and feel drawn to simplicity, then Brunello is your brand.

Rick Owens himself is an art school dropout with an unconventional skill for design. Recognized by an air of darkness, the brand is characterized by a modern interpretation of black and white Hollywood glamour. Known for draped tees, shrunken outerwear and monster puffers, the label stays consistent with shock value and highly outrageous moments. Try on a few pieces from the line if you desire gothic-inspired streetwear that turns heads for its extravagant allure.

Missoni has a non-conformist image with a vibrant selection of items. Known for iconic and colorful knitwear, the brand uses a zigzag pattern that creatively illustrates the label’s first initial, “M.” Taking cues from 70s hues, the silhouettes speak to the line’s bohemian and free-spirited quest. From tees to turtlenecks and embroidered denim, the brand delights with cheerful collections that place it in a category of its own. Unlike other brands mentioned, Missoni caters to the trend-conscious individual, and, as such, designs pieces that are always easy, quirky and casual.

A sustainable European brand, Ermenegildo Zegna focuses on Earth-conscious fabrics that last while creating the perfect feel and fit. Tailored for casual weekends and work engagements alike, the refined styles exude a level of utility that’s quite refreshing. The brand educates patrons on the intricacies of the design process to add value and meaning. With mentions of luxury leisurewear, triple-stitch sneakers, and the five-pocket pants, you can tell that Zegna has its eye on making style feel true to you, while remaining undeniably comfy.

Weaving style into your life takes time and precision. Similarly, navigating the landscape of fashion in 2023 is challenging yet rewarding. Luxury fashion doesn’t always have to come with an insurmountable price tag. When done consciously, vintage pieces can hold up to the same level of quality. Finding your fashion niche depends on your level of creativity and commitment. And once you find it, there’s no turning back. As Diane Von Furstenberg once said, “Style is something that each of us already has. All we need to do is find it.”

Hybrid yachts are gaining momentum, and Rossinavi’s Blue model is no exception. The Italian builder has announced that the 138.5-foot superyacht will come equipped with an eco-friendly navigation system and a hull that minimizes energy consumption. Crafted of ultra-lightweight aluminum, the polished exterior emits an undeniable cool factor.

In collaboration with Italian superyacht designer Fulvio de Simoni, the Infinity 42 BluE boasts one of the sleekest facades on the market. An impressive 27-foot beam shows off the hybrid’s vast interior with a volume of 400 GT. Its silvery hue leads the eye across a shimmery exterior and a prominent pointed bow. Most yacht enthusiast’s would agree, there’s nothing quite like it.

Of course, it can’t be environmentally conscious without some of the most notable inclusions. It has perfectly-placed solar panels and unparalleled electric capabilities. The yacht can take up to 90 percent of its journey in full electric mode and the remaining 10 percent in diesel. The result is a whisper-quiet experience that only adds to the satisfaction of your tranquil escape.

The yacht also has an expert artificial intelligence system that will monitor the boat’s performance and transfer necessary information to the captain and crew. It will keep track of its environmental impact and take action to minimize it. Yet another stress-free inclusion that will have everyone on board reveling in a moment of luxury.

Take a step inside to discover a handful of guest cabins on the lower deck and an owner’s suite on the main deck. As far as areas to take in the salty air, there are plenty to pick from. One of the yacht’s most exquisite amenities is the panoramic lounge located in the bow.  On the top deck, there’s a place to eat, drink, and sunbathe along with a relaxing jacuzzi to end the night.

At a glance, this seabound escape’s design might be its greatest asset, but knowing it’s good to the ocean, too gives it an upper hand to the competition. This luxe innovation might be placed in a category of its own.

Blackpink’s Lisa and the luxury jewelry label Bvlgari have come together for a fresh collaboration to celebrate a limited-edition timepiece that’s a favorite of the moment. The Bvlgari Bvlgari x Lisa stainless steel watch features a logo-emblazoned bezel and a striking quartz movement. With only 700 pieces available, it’s practically custom and a smart investment for any informed collector.

Bvlgari designed the dial specifically for Lisa, the notable member of the South Korean female group Blackpink, to honor the singer’s vivacious personality. Exceptionally fascinating with its monochromatic hue, the watch features a color-changing sunray dial and 12 round diamond indexes to frame it. The watch highlights a trio of colors—blue, green, and a hint of purple—to reinvigorate an otherwise refined adornment.

The 18-karat rose gold crown is set with a natural pink rubellite for a distinctive and feminine finish. What’s more, it draws inspiration from Lisa’s favorite flower, the edelweiss, which also pays homage to the watchmaker’s Swiss storefront. Turn the watch over to reveal the floral interpretation engraved with her first initial. You’ll also see the words “Fabriqué en Suisse” along with the vocalist’s signature. Defined by its alluring “diver” silhouette that’s known for water-resistant qualities, this sleek timepiece can submerge up to 30 meters, or about 98 feet under water.

Bvlgari is a fine Italian designer and jewelry maker committed to excellence. With magnificent accessory collections, the brand is best known for signature cuts and raw materials that delight. The styles include animal-inspired bracelets and necklaces made of rich diamond pavé, captivating and custom gemstones, and of course, timeless timepieces.

Introducing Ella: A smart stroller packed with unprecedented features that will steer itself to a category of its own. This 30-pound pram is equipped with artificial intelligence and a revolutionized version of self-driving. Vancouver-based baby company, GlüxKind reimagined the traditional stroller to include essentially everything you need to make baby content without the crucial demands of a sitter. Ella can provide more moms and nannies a chance to relish in a relaxing moment while it cruises away on its own. Referred to it as the Tesla of strollers, this future phenomenon is expected to take the baby world by storm.

But what makes this AI version so remarkable? Ella is designed to push itself, so the dreaded uphill journey will be self-assisted and much less strenuous. Just imagine holding baby without having to steer the stroller. This version will do it for you with the included hands-free mode. Most importantly, the multi-level braking system will ensure it stops on command, so there’s less worry around downhill walks and busy streets.

Not only does it have a white noise machine, Ella has a smooth rocking feature that’s much more stable and secure than grandmother’s wooden chair. Both features will work in tandem to lull your little one to sleep. Baby might be out like a light, but Ella never will be. The 360-degree safety feature has sensors to detect disturbances like bikes or cars.

Speaking of controls, the companion app allows you to track your stroller’s location through the Find-My-Baby feature. This is exceptionally helpful for moms to keep a watchful eye when nanny’s in charge.

You can purchase the base model for $3,300 and the ‘Founder’s Edition’ costs an additional $200. Shipping for the smart stroller begins in April, so tech-obsessed parents can check it off their list in just a few short months.
