This Luxurious Resort Puts All the Wonders of the Napa Valley Right at Your Fingertips.

When you’re planning a trip to California’s Napa Valley, there are several challenging (albeit fun) decisions to be made. Which of the area’s hundreds of wineries do you want to visit? And once you’ve narrowed down your choices, which vintages do you want to sample? But there’s one decision that will be easy to make—where to stay. The Meritage Resort and Spa, located in the heart of Napa, offers everything you could possibly need to make the most of your stay in this legendary wine country destination.

This spacious resort is set on over 36 acres of rolling hills, including a private, nine-acre vineyard with walking trails to stroll. All of the guest rooms and suites have been recently redesigned to reflect a warm, Tuscan-style ambiance. And since this is wine country, you’ll be welcomed with a bottle of wine from Napa’s own Trintas Cellars.

One of the resort’s most innovative amenities is called The Village. It’s a lush lawn surrounded by tasting rooms operated by some of Napa Valley’s top boutique wineries. Here, without ever having to leave the resort, guests can sample sparkling wines and champagne at Sora Napa, sip Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon at Trintas Cellars, explore the offerings of the family-owned GEN 7 Wines or savor the varietals of the Anarchist Wine Co. And for those in need of a little extra sustenance as they sample their way through The Village, there’s a gourmet grocery store and food truck nearby.

For dining, there are a number of excellent options. Olive + Hay specializes in Italian-inspired farm-to-table cuisine and Crush Lounge is a chic bowling venue that serves up craft cocktails and elevated bar food. And for a truly special dining experience, there’s the newly-opened Ember Steak which, under the expert direction of Chef Cary Roy, offers a carefully-curated menu that includes savory cuts such as Double R-Ranch Ribeye, Tomahawk, New York Strip and Kurobuta Iberico Pork Chops. Rounding out the menu are delectable seafood and sushi selections.

No visit to The Meritage would be complete without a visit to Spa Terra. After all, how often do you get to indulge in a luxurious spa treatment while relaxing in an underground Estate Cave? The treatments are as unique as the setting, thanks to the spa’s special seasonal offerings. During the summer they included such delicious-sounding treatments as the Lemon Velveteen Whipped Mousse Massage and the Watermelon Vodkatini Body Treatment. The spa also offers monthly wellness events and weekly classes that include aqua aerobics, barre classes and a vineyard yoga hike.

For further relaxation, there’s a family pool as well as a separate adult pool. And should you be fortunate enough to stay at The Meritage in the summer, you can attend the Blue Note Napa Concert Series featuring a diverse lineup of world-class artists. You can even choose accommodations that offer a great view of the stage, right from your balcony. And when you’re ready to explore the local area (if you can tear yourself away from the resort), you’ll have easy access to Napa’s acclaimed wineries, or you can take the resort’s shuttle to Downtown Napa.

With its thoughtfully planned redesign, The Meritage Resort and Spa has truly been reimagined. Now, all you have to do is imagine yourself arriving for a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

TAFER Hotels & Resorts Partners with El Cielo Winery to Produce Three Distinctive and Exclusive Wine Blends

Relaxing at a luxurious oceanfront resort in Mexico is an ideal way to make the stresses of daily life simply melt away. And the experience is made even better when you can enjoy it while sipping exclusive blends of wine you won’t find anywhere else in the world. The team at TAFER Hotels & Resorts understands this, which is why it recently introduced its inaugural TAFER Wine Program in partnership with El Cielo Winery.

The wine program was introduced earlier this year with a series of multi-course gourmet events at TAFER’s award-winning resorts in Los Cabos, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. The first offering, named the Voyage Collection, includes three wine blends produced exclusively for TAFER by El Cielo Winery. The renowned winery grows 15 varieties of grapes on 86 acres in the Guadalupe Valley in Baja California, a wine growing region known for its unique terroir. In keeping with its name “cielo,” which means sky or heavens, the winery gives each of its wines an astronomy-themed name.

“We are very excited to offer our signature hand-crafted wines across our portfolio of TAFER Hotels & Resorts,” says Enrico Lindenhahn, vice president of operations for the company. “These exquisite varietals reflect the very best of Mexican viticulture and will further elevate the gastronomic program throughout our various dining destinations. By partnering with El Cielo Winery, which boasts expert winemakers who are dedicated to producing high quality wines in Mexico’s foremost wine region of Valle de Guadalupe, we are able to provide our guests with premium wine as a part of a truly unforgettable and elevated vacation experience.”

The TAFER Voyage Collection encompasses three exceptional varietals—Phoenix, a woody Cabernet Sauvignon blend of franc, merlot and malbec; Stellar, a refreshing chardonnay with notes of pineapple, guava and nutmeg; and Solstice, a rosé blend of zinfandel, malbec and Sangiovese with notes of peach and citrus. Resort guests can enjoy the TAFER Voyage Collection wines at any of the onsite dining destinations at TAFER’s Garza Blanca Resort & Spa and Hotel Mousai properties in Los Cabos, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta.

The TAFER Wine Program is part of the company’s initiative to bring innovative and unique experiences to its guests. Another example is the Meat Sommelier Program TAFER recently debuted at its signature steakhouses, Bocados Steak House, Karuma The Art of Grill and La Casona Steak House & Seafood Grill at select oceanfront properties in Cancun, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta. Through this unique program, TAFER’s knowledgeable Meat Sommeliers guide diners through the intricacies of the meat selection process to help them choose just the right cut that will meet their unique tastes and preferences. The Meat Sommeliers are well versed in the types and tastes of meat cuts, where they are sourced and the different types of cattle breeds, from Angus to Wagyu. These experts can also walk guests through how the aging and grilling processes are performed.

If you’re wondering where you can go to indulge in these unique food and wine offerings, you’ll have plenty of choices. The family-friendly Garza Blanca Resort & Spa and the adults-only Hotel Mousai each operate oceanfront resorts in Los Cabos, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. No matter which of the six resorts you choose, you’ll find a choice of luxury suites, gourmet cuisine, a world-class spa and refreshing pools among the amenities. Some suites even come equipped with a gourmet kitchen, and if the idea of having a oversized hammock where you can relax and kick back on your oceanview terrace beckons to you, you can find that, too.

Planning to travel with the kids? Garza Blanca Resort & Spa offers a Kids’ Club at each of its locations in Los Cabos, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. Designed for kids between the ages of 4 and 12, the club offers a full range of fun activities, including crafts, games, pool time, movie time and soccer on the beach.

TAFER resorts also offer the option of choosing an all-inclusive plan when booking reservations. The exclusive Voyage Collection wines are included as part of the Gourmet Culinary All-Inclusive Plan, which covers all food and beverages enjoyed at the resort with the exception of a few premium menu items.

If exclusive wines, extraordinary cuisine and luxurious suites and amenities offered in a beautiful oceanfront setting sound appealing to you, then any one of TAFER’s six resorts in Los Cabos, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta would make a heavenly choice.

Two Oceanfront Courses and a Charming, Craftsman-style Lodge Make Torrey Pines a Winning Choice for Golfers.

One of the most anticipated stops on the PGA Tour each season is Torrey Pines, set atop the cliffs of La Jolla, California and overlooking the Pacific. Both the North Course and South Course are used in the early rounds of the tournament and provide two different playing settings—and challenges. The South Course gets more love as it has hosted the U.S. Open multiple times, including Tiger Woods’ 2008 legendary victory and Jon Rahm’s 2021 win. It is a true championship course, meaning it’s long and often plays longer in the heavy marine air. The elevated greens set the stage for difficult chips and are also protected by deep bunkers. For an easier—and, some argue, more scenic walk—opt for the North Course, which is shorter and takes better advantage of its coastal views. The 2018 renovation increased the size of the bunkers (making them easier to hit) and added a drivable par-4 to push the fun factor.

Torrey Pines Lodge

Golfers flock to play where the pros play, but skipping The Lodge at Torrey Pines would be a mistake. The craftsman-style hotel is a mixture of Spanish-influenced Southern Californian architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright’s prairie style. Its timeless appeal remains as captivating today as when its exquisite stained-glass doors first welcomed guests over two decades ago. Consistently awarded the prestigious AAA Five Diamond rating, The Lodge is renowned for its unparalleled service, distinctive ambiance and sumptuous accommodations. The Reserve and Palisade suites offer spacious accommodations, private balconies and oversized soaking tubs, along with golf course and botanical garden views. A stay here promises an unforgettable and cherished journey for every traveler, especially those with a passion for golf.

The resort features several dining options, including A.R. Valentien and The Grill. The former is the resort’s signature restaurant and has a rotating seasonal menu with locally sourced ingredients, while The Grill’s slow-cooked, farm-fresh menu has its own custom-built wood-burning rotisserie oven and offers diners panoramic views of the iconic South Course. This summer, the resort will host Playing with Fire, a season-long celebration of outdoor grilling headed by the resort’s executive chef and featuring special guest chefs each month. Each Playing with Fire event will feature a delicious display of wood-fired dishes, seasonal sides and local brews for guests to enjoy alongside views of the iconic golf courses.

The Spa at Torrey Pines takes its cues from the surrounding natural setting atop the Pacific Ocean and is within walking distance of the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. The Coastal Aroma Soak and Massage stands out among the spa’s many offerings. Guests are submerged in a relaxing soak of Dead Sea salts and organic essential oils of lemon, clove, mandarin and basil and then receive a 50-minute personalized massage. There is also a detoxifying sea leaf wrap that uses organic seaweed leaves to scrub and wrap the guest’s body. After a gentle exfoliation, the body is wrapped in hand-harvested seaweed leaves and allowed to absorb all of the potent nutrients to hydrate and soften the skin.

With its winning combination of challenging oceanfront courses, an elegant yet comfortable California Craftsman-style lodge, excellent farm-to-table cuisine and a relaxing spa, Torrey Pines definitely belongs on every golfer’s “must play” list.

The great outdoors are Big Cedar Lodge’s focus but golf has quickly become a trail that’s well traveled.

A course built by Tiger Woods might seem enough to gain a foothold in the thriving market of traveling golfers, but the buddies trips of today are a much more discerning lot than in years past. A big name designer isn’t enough to grab traveling golfers’ attention these days, even if he’s one of the greatest to ever play. Luckily for Big Cedar Lodge and its founder, Johnny Morris, Tiger’s course, named Payne’s Valley, in honor of the late U.S. Open Champion Payne Stewart, is just but one gem in the resort’s golf portfolio.

Nestled away, just south of Branson, Missouri, Big Cedar Lodge is both homage and economic engine to Morris’s home state. While it was conceived of as an outdoors paradise with plentiful fishing and ATV trails, leaning on Morris’s Bass Pro Shops heritage and clientele, the golf offerings at Big Cedar have become a showcase unto themselves and a quickly growing destination for golfers because of the variety of its offerings. Aside from Payne’s Valleys, which features a unique “bye” hole—an extra hole some courses have after the 18th—that asks golfers to hit a 112-yard shot to a small island green in a rock cavern with a cascading waterfall as its backdrop, there is also the splendid Ozarks National, Buffalo Ridge, and a pair of par 3 courses, Mountain Top and Top of the Rock.

Each of these courses takes into account the natural beauty of their surroundings with Ozarks National being the darling of the golf course architecture community, whose small numbers belie their outsized influence. Ozarks National was designed by the duo of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, and while causal golfers are drawn to Crenshaw’s credentials as a two-time Masters champion and Ryder Cup captain, his design chops are just as sterling. The duo has built some of the world’s most astonishing and celebrated courses, which are known for taking advantage of a site’s natural terrain and topography. Whereas Payne’s Valley and Buffalo Ridge have, to some, a more polished look and feel, with tightly mown bunker edges and razor straight edges, Ozarks presents itself more naturally, with large swaths of native grass at its edges and more unkempt (but not necessarily untidy) complexes. All three of the big courses present golfers with serpentine, rumpled fairways, often with elevated tee shots that allow the ball to tumble forward.

In the evening, or while settling up that day’s bets, either Top of the Rock or Mountain Top offer a way to keep the fun going in a more relaxed way. Par 3 courses are growing at a surprising rate across the country and, predominantly, at resorts like Big Cedar but these aren’t your father’s executive courses where he fit in an evening 9 after work. Like their regulation 18 siblings they now offer a variety of challenges and interesting putting services as well as big name architects attached to their designs. Top of the Rock was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player took the reins on Mountain Top. These courses aren’t just great for squeezing in a few more holes with your friends, they are a great introduction to golf for beginners or children. And that brings us to one of the more unique aspects of Big Cedar Lodge. It’s really for everyone. Voted by Golf Magazine as the Best Golf Resort for Families, Big Cedar is able to accommodate the diehard golf trip but can easily pivot to a family adventure or even a couples getaway.

For golf visitors, the Lakeside Cottages and Private Log Cabins are perfect for groups. The cottages can accommodate as many as 12 people in a 3,500 square foot, four bedroom house to as few as a single person in a one-room cottage with fireplace that tops out at 480 square feet. The cabins provide rustic charm with the largest being a two-bedroom with a loft that is a little over 1,500 square feet and can sleep 8-10 people. Pricing varies, of course, according to the season, and the resort offers plenty of diverse golf packages to book.

And not to be missed, of course are the restaurants. Caloric intake will be vital as you traverse the resort’s winding trails and roads. Luckily, no less than 13 different dining options are available, including a wine bar, not to mention room service for some of the accommodations. Of note are Harry’s Cocktail Lounge and Bar, which offers small plates and a very long list of great bourbons and house cocktails along with cigars. The Osage Restaurant is the resort’s upscale dining experience and offers panoramic views of the property. A bison tomahawk and the lobster mac and cheese should keep you well sated until the next day’s round. And if you’ve got the kids with you then try the relaxed atmosphere of the Blue Fin lounge, which has plenty of eats for kids and nice selection of seafood for the adults.

For a day off from the course or meandering through the woods, the resort rounds itself out with offering three pools for its guests. The Lakeside Pool offers an infinity edge pool that seems to tumble into the Table of the Rock Lake. Heated to 84 degrees, this pool stays open through end of October and the nearby hot tub is the perfect way to work out the kinks in your back, if not your swing. Big Cedar Lodge may play up its frontier spirit and aesthetic, but it’s all just a mask for what is really a luxurious getaway in one of the country’s most underrated and naturally scenic areas.

With its breathtaking setting in Baja California overlooking the Sea of Cortez, Loreto is a magical destination. In fact, the Mexican government has officially designated the town as a “Pueblo Mágico” for its natural beauty, cultural richness, history, cuisine and great hospitality. Such a magnificent setting merits an equally magnificent resort experience, and you’ll find it at Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto.

This eco-friendly luxury resort is nestled on a private beach on the shores of the Loreto Bay National Marine Park, an 800-square-mile UNESCO World Heritage site that is a paradise for snorkelers and scuba divers. The resort’s luxurious oceanfront suites overlook an unspoiled coastline accented with mesmerizing, craggy peaks that dramatically plunge into the sea. Even though this pristine setting is blissfully secluded, Loreto is easily accessible by air with direct flights from major hubs and by private jet to FBO Loreto.

The resort’s 18-hole TPC Danzante Bay by Rees Jones is the only TPC course in Mexico. It features some of the most striking holes in golf and has been named one of the best courses in the country by Golf Digest. Jones utilized the natural landscape of the Baja California peninsula to create a unique golfing experience that incorporates the area’s desert vegetation, rugged canyons and pristine beaches. This TPC masterpiece rivals the top courses in the world and stretches over 7,400 yards from the back tees, providing a challenge for even the most skilled golfers.

Guests are spoiled for choice at mealtimes with the resort’s four onsite restaurants. The buffet-style Market Restaurant offers Mediterranean, American, and Mexican dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Casa Mia serves casual, contemporary Italian cuisine with a Mexican flair. The Beach Club offers fresh seafood and cocktails with views of Danzante Bay. For upscale dinners, Danzante offers robust steak and seafood dishes, as well as a sommelier-curated wine list featuring a selection of Mexican wines and international labels. The restaurant’s bar also offers guests a selection of cigars to choose from.

At the resort’s 39,000-square-foot Sabila Spa, guests can indulge in a range of services, including heavenly massages, results-driven facials and soothing body wraps and scrubs. Aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, reflexology and other wellness treatments are also on the menu. The spa also boasts a full-service salon along with a sauna, spa tub and guided meditation courses.

Kayaking, paddle boarding, sport fishing, tennis, five outdoor pools, nightly live entertainment, a nightclub and a kids’ club round out the resort’s amenities, all of which combine to provide a positively magical experience in Loreto.

Chef-Owner Ray Lee’s Akikos has been winning raves as the new flagship restaurant located in The Avery by Related California’s outdoor pocket park in Downtown San Francisco’s East Cut area.

The 2,700 sq. ft. room, designed by AvroKO’s San Francisco studio, represents a significant expansion for the restaurant, which has developed significantly since its first launch in 1987. Akikos has gained a loyal following of locals, celebrities, and visitors alike for its unique sushi selections. When Ray took over the restaurant from his parents in 2009, he was the first in San Francisco to offer a traditional omakase experience, replete with fresh fish from Tokyo. The 24-seat Chef’s Stage dominates the dining room, giving guests a 360-degree view of Head Sushi Chef Shinsuke Hayashi and the team of chefs as they demonstrate their skills in a captivating performance. A burst of color is revealed as the chefs open drawers at their workstations, creating a continual primary color orchestra.

La Mar Cocina Peruana, the best Peruvian sea-to-table restaurant in the Bay Area, is run by famous chef and pioneer of Peruvian food Gaston Acurio and situated in San Francisco’s Embarcadero with panoramic views of the bay. La Mar Bar, located adjacent to the main restaurant, embraces the essence of Peru with sea-inspired design and welcomes visitors to sip pisco-centric cocktails combined with an array of sharable Peruvian bar snacks prepared by Executive Chef Victoriano Lopez in the middle of a vibrant social scene. The menu includes Peruvian classics such as the Causa, a duo of whipped potatoes topped with seafood or vegetables, and Lomo Saltado, a traditional Peruvian-style stir-fry of beef tenderloin sautéed with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, garlic, topped with a fried egg, papas fritas, and rice. Chef Lopez goes beyond the traditional to produce bright, fresh, and healthful foods that are gluten-free and vegan-friendly.

Craving Wagyu? Navigate your way to The Bungalow Kitchen by Michael Mina. You’ll be torn between the Oak-Grilled American Wagyu NY Strip and The Bungalow Wagyu Burger. Located on the waterfront in Tiburon, Marin County, this haute hideaway oozes with bohemian heritage. As an anchor for Tiburon’s reimagined downtown, this de facto “community clubhouse” provides stunning unobstructed views of the Bay and is only a short ferry ride from San Francisco. This new social dining experience is the brainchild of award-winning Chef Michael Mina of San Francisco-based MINA Group and hospitality veteran Brent Bolthouse, founder of The Bungalow Hospitality Group. The two-story bayside retreat marries MINA Group’s signature five-star service and bold cuisine with Bolthouse’s unrivaled ability to create a bustling social scene for a midweek bite, late-night drink, weekend brunch, and everything in between, with eclectic bohemian design by AD100 interior designer Martin Brudnizki.

Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at Embarcadero

San Francisco, a city renowned for its diverse culture and captivating landscapes, is home to numerous vibrant neighborhoods. Among them, the Embarcadero section stands out as a trendy destination for both locals and tourists alike. With its scenic waterfront location, iconic landmarks, bustling marketplace, and a myriad of recreational activities, the Embarcadero is bursting with cool experiences that encapsulates the spirit of San Francisco.

One of the major draws of the Embarcadero is its collection of iconic landmarks. The most notable among them is the historic Ferry Building, a magnificent architectural gem that serves as a gateway to the city–a bustling marketplace where artisanal food vendors, local farmers, and gourmet eateries offer an array of culinary delights. The Ferry Building also hosts a popular farmers’ market, which showcases an abundance of fresh produce, artisanal crafts, and lively street performances. The Exploratorium, a renowned interactive science museum, is a must-visit destination for families and science enthusiasts. The Embarcadero’s proximity to the San Francisco Giants’ Oracle Park makes it an ideal destination for baseball enthusiasts, who can catch a thrilling game while enjoying the breathtaking views.

When it comes to experiencing the vibrant and diverse Bay Area, one of the most luxurious places to stay is the Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at Embarcadero. Situated in the heart of the city, this sweet spot in the city combines breathtaking views, impeccable service, and a snazzy location for exploring the iconic attractions of San Francisco and venturing into the renowned wine country. As you step into the gilded lobby, you are greeted by eye catching elegance and sophistication. The hotel’s exceptional attention to detail is evident in every aspect of its design and amenities, especially checking into a “Golden Gate-View Suite” on the 46th floor. As you enter the suite, find yourself captivated by the panoramic vistas–from the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz, America’s tech capital city unfolds beneath your feet. The suite offers a spacious living area, a separate bedroom, a sanctuary-like bathroom, all designed with comfort in mind. Tasteful décor and state-of-the-art amenities create an ambiance of pure luxury.

The Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at Embarcadero also boasts two other exceptional suites—the Golden Gate Terrace Suite and Embarcadero Terrace Suite. These suites take luxury to new heights with their own private 800 sq. ft. furnished terraces. From these terraces, guests can relish unobstructed views of the iconic San Francisco skyline and the sparkling waters of the Bay. Whether you want to enjoy a morning coffee with the city awakening around you or savor a glass of wine as the sun sets over the horizon, these terraces provide the perfect setting for a truly unforgettable experience.

The Four Seasons recently restored the 155-room hotel and built out a new California-Italian restaurant called Orafo. Gunnar Planter, the chef of Orafo, began his career at Mille Fleurs with James Beard Award-winning chef Martin Woesle and has since worked at a number of prominent SoCal restaurants. But he’s always wanted to dabble in the Bay Area’s thriving food scene. Orafo is the star when it comes to dining, the hotel’s signature restaurant offers an exquisite culinary journey. . The name is Italian for “goldsmith” — a nod to craftsmanship and the Gold Rush. Get your table going with carne crudo, followed by a plate of truly swoon worthy squid ink linguine or grilled strip loin two ways. The bar’s playful cocktails include Karl the Fog, an elaborate tableside libation presentation with maple wood smoke. From robust breakfast options to innovative lunch and dinner menus, the restaurant takes fresh ingredients and flavors of the region to a level that will leave you wanting more. With impeccable service and an extensive wine list, it’s the perfect place to indulge in a gastronomic delight.

Planter’s menu is inspired by the regions of Tuscany and Calabria in Italy. Shareable appetizers like tuna bresaola carpaccio with culatello and buffalo mozzarella are highlights. A la carte meals such as rich handmade pastas such as pappardelle and orecchiette are also highlights. Planter believes Orafo will stand out due to his twists on classic foods, such as fennel seed, which adds a subtle twist to the standard burrata. Porchetta and branzino, two popular bandstand dinners, round out the menu. The restaurant is on the ground floor and has dark, brooding wood walls as well as excellent plush couches. The plan is, hotel guests will be drawn to Orafo, and residents will grow to regard the new restaurant as a worthwhile location to eat in the same vein as Poesia and Che Fico.

The first of many elements that will take your breath away at this ultra-luxurious, adults-only resort are the views. From its setting high above sparkling Banderas Bay, it offers a unique vantage point for taking in the incredibly scenic crescent-shaped coastline and the Pacific that stretches beyond. But that’s just the beginning of what lies in store for you.

Another hint of things to come is that Hotel Mousai is the first and only resort in Puerto Vallarta and, in fact, the entire state of Jalisco, to earn the coveted AAA Five Diamond designation. It’s a sure sign that you can expect world-class luxury, leading-edge cuisine and extraordinary service.

Let’s start with the accommodations. Hotel Mousai occupies two towers within the exclusive Garza Blanca Preserve. The newest of them is the South Tower, home to a choice of suites including the Ultra Mousai Corner Suite that includes among its amenities a signature Tafer king-size bed with luxurious linens, a sofa, workspace and ensuite bath with dual vanities and a walk-in rain shower. Most notably, there’s a wraparound terrace that’s almost as large as the suite itself and includes a private jetted plunge pool and oversized hammock, not to mention panoramic jungle and ocean views.

The North and South Towers also offer expansive Penthouse suites, a lobby bar and a rooftop infinity pool that has to be experienced to be believed. Talk about feeling like you’re on top of the world.

As a guest in one of Hotel Mousai’s Ultra Suites, you’ll enjoy the services of a personal butler who will stand ready to reserve your lounge chairs by the pool, make your dinner reservations and keep your suite stocked with top-shelf spirits and snacks. At your request, your butler will also seamlessly arrange for any activities you’d like to enjoy such as a kayaking adventure to Mismaloya Beach and the Los Arcos rock formation, a jungle hiking tour or Kundalini yoga on the beach.

To enjoy the finest dining in Puerto Vallarta, you won’t even have to leave the resort. Among the most tantalizing restaurant choices are NOI, a contemporary venue that elevates Italian food to an art form; DAO, specializing in serving modern Chinese cuisine in a Zen-like setting; and Hiroshi, where Japanese culinary creations are prepared with the freshest of ingredients. You can even ask your personal butler to arrange a private candlelit dinner on the rooftop of the North Tower so you can gaze out on yet another stunning view of the bay while you dine.

Of course, no world-class resort is complete without an equally world-class spa. Spa Imagine is located on the 15th floor (yes, that means more mesmerizing views), and offers an impressive menu of treatments, including a Hydrotherapy Ritual that includes a circuit of six different hot and cold stations. One of the spa’s newest treatments is the HydraFacial. This special hydrating treatment uses patented technology and nourishing ingredients to improve the skin’s texture and tone.

Hotel Mousai also offers an all-inclusive option that includes gourmet dining, a selection of premium, local and international alcoholic beverages and 24-hour room service for a truly carefree experience.

It may be the views and amenities that will draw you to Hotel Mousai, but it will be the extraordinary level of service the hotel staff delivers that will keep you coming back.

Golfstruck in the Desert: Chase Winter Blues Away in Sonoran Splendor

Since the golden age of Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, Scottsdale has carved its way into the Golf Hall of Fame with 1,223 holes and 51 golf courses, not to mention an additional 200 courses sprinkled across the greater Valley of the Sun area. Few destinations can rival the pitch perfect golf landscape found in Scottsdale’s Sonoran Desert, with its remarkably lush fairways – often bordered by billion-year-old rock formations – and impressive saguaro cacti lining the courses. With 330-plus days of annual sunshine, it’s no wonder why this city is an unparalleled global golf destination.

Grayhawk Golf Club

Grayhawk - Talon Course No. 12

Scottsdale’s acclaimed Grayhawk Golf Club offers two of the Southwest’s most engaging golf experiences – the par-72 Talon course and the par-72 Raptor course. The club opened in 1994 and both courses consistently rank among Scottsdale’s top courses to play. Boasting 36-holes of desert golf, this high-end facility provides superior course conditions and offers a thrilling challenge that commands a player’s respect.

Both courses have a lot to offer when it comes to difficulty and scoring. We found the Grayhawk’s Raptor course a juggernaut of links requiring laser focus. The scenery put us under its spell with panoramic views of the McDowell Mountains. The Tom Fazio designed course, measuring 7,151 yards, features rolling fairways with beautiful multi-tiered bent grass greens, with tempting undulation, that will challenge your short game. Fazio also utilized numerous swales and vast bunkers, many of which are steep, adding drama as well as aesthetic value to the course.

Grayhawk - Raptor Course No. 8

Grayhawk - Talon Course No. 9

Many of the tough holes require some finesse, so knowing where to miss is key, while the easier holes have many options off the tee and reward creativity. With some occasional narrow fairways, strategic bunker placements and longer par 3’s, Raptor can present a tenacious challenge for any level of golfer. Your approach shots are everything. Miss your target landing zone by a few feet and you’re staring at bogie. Being a bit more exposed to the wind, the demand for precise shots is greater, but good shots are rewarded and birdies can be made on any hole.

Make no mistake, this is the sunseeker’s ideal winter golf escape. Located within a radius of only a few miles of The Boulders, We-Ko-Pa, and Talking Stick as possible places to stay while exploring Grayhawk Golf Club.

Entrusted to the care of golf architect Forrest Richardson, who worked with Snyder for more than 25 years, the rebirth of the course continues to wow locals and international guests alike.

Mountain Shadows Resort - The Residences

Mountain Shadows Resort - Camelback Presidential Suite Terrace

The Citizens Club Pool

When the resort first opened in 1959, Mountain Shadows won the heart of Hollywood. This secluded desert oasis quickly became a fancy-free playground for big-name entertainers—think Lucille Ball, Bob Hope, Sammy Davis Jr. Westroc Hospitality invested $100 million to rebuild this desert icon from the ground up. The renewed Mountain Shadows resort opened in 2017, luring discerning travelers with a posh new lodging choice in the Phoenix-Scottsdale market.

The resort, with 183 rooms and 42 condominiums and suites, takes full advantage of its Sonoran desert setting. The design endows Mid-Century modern motifs with a decidedly contemporary spin. The interiors wink playfully at the property’s heritage. Floor-to-ceiling glass along with flowing alfresco areas give a spine-tingling sense of forgetting whether you’re inside or out.

Hearth ’61

Mountain Shadows Resort - Hearth '61 Patio

After a full day on the course, tuck into a hearty dinner at Hearth ’61. Located just inside the entrance to Mountain Shadows, Hearth ’61 is open and airy, and radiates a welcoming vibe. The venue honors the town’s origins by gathering guests around robust food and upbeat conviviality. TPC Scottsdale

It is no wonder that professionals and amateurs alike consider TPC Scottsdale, offering 36 holes of championship golf, to be one of Arizona’s top golf destination properties. Designed by the team of Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, the Stadium and Champions courses opened in 1987 and appeals to all levels of ability. With two spectacular layouts to choose from, the biggest challenge may be deciding which course to play first.

As the PGA TOUR stop with the largest crowds of any golf event in the world, the Waste Management Phoenix Open brings immeasurable attention to TPC Scottsdale’s Stadium Course, renovated in 2014. The end result was more aesthetically pleasing to resort guests and strategically more challenging to PGA TOUR players.

16th Hole at The Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale

Rickie Fowler during the Waste Management Phoenix Open

Throughout the course, players will find an ideally balanced layout that blends challenge and playability. Big-shouldered fairways are framed by boulders that amaze almost as much as they aim to stupefy. Course conditions are top notch and having a chance to play where the pros do is always a treat. The final stretch of holes on the back nine were designed to add drama for when the PGA Tour rolls through town. This final stretch includes an island green par 5, the 16th hole that transforms into “The Coliseum” during the Phoenix Open – (providing fans with one of the most exciting par-3 settings in professional sports), a drivable par 4, and a stout finishing two-shotter over water. Arrive early to take advantage of some of the best practice facilities available anywhere.

The Westin Kierland Golf Club

Westin Kierland Golf Club - Acacia Course

The Westin Kierland Golf Club, designed by Scott Miller, features 27 holes that form a cohesive collection of nines: Acacia, Ironwood, and Mesquite. Each nine marinates in its own flavor and structure, each enjoyable and challenging and can be combined a la carte to create an 18-hole experience. With multiple tee boxes available at each course, golfers are ensured over 6900 yards from the tips on distinct desert-style layouts.

Kierland’s park-like setting makes the perfect place to savor the essence of true resort-style, championship-level, desert golf. Enjoy the spacious greens and expansive fairways on each nine, but try your hardest to avoid the 300+ bunkers, large lakes and dry washes if you’d like to shoot a score worth bragging about.

Silicon Valley touches like Segway Golf are much touted by repeat guests; golfers traverse the course on a Segway specially crafted to carry clubs. Golf Bikes and TurfRiders allow golfers to cycle the course and Golfboards, which golfers can use to “surf the earth” while golfing. Of course, you can still rent an air-conditioned golf cart, which blows cool air on the back of your neck to keep you crisp and comfortable.

The venues of the property are resplendent with artwork that paints a colorful portrait of Arizona’s forebears – Native Americans, pioneers, artisans, rogues. Explorers and history makers – that helped shape the state’s cultural heritage.

Set on 250 acres in North Scottsdale, The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa provides contemporary design paired with an evolving collection of signature experiences. We especially love the kindred nightly series dubbed “Bagpipes at Sunset” — a celebration of the Scottsdale Scottish heritage.

This unforgettable property offers accommodation ranging from well-appointed hotel rooms to spacious Casita suites. Serving as the perfect home base, each spacious room provides luxurious amenities, stunning views of the surrounding area, private balconies and patios and the Westin brand’s signature Heavenly Beds. While kids enjoy the onsite Aquaventure water park, couples relax at the sparkling adults-only pool, frosty margaritas in hand.

Agave, The Arizona Spa, is a must. Picture a rejuvenating destination showcasing rare, desert-inspired treatments and you’re practically there. On the gastro front, Nuevo-Latino cuisine from James Beard Award-winner Chef Douglas Rodriguez over delivers on many dishes. As a golf resort, a family getaway, and a corporate retreat, the Westin Kierland is a clear standout in Scottsdale.
